Thanks Hershey!

Happy Friday all! Today kicked my butt at the restaurant. I woke up with a little bit of a sore throat and felt a little more tired than usual all morning...but I think the giant shot of Zicam helped, or I woke up. Anyway, I spent all morning in back doing prep. I don't mind doing prep, I hate doing it in back. I feel left out and its cold. I don't know if it was that or feeling a little blah that put me in a lousy mood for the first half of the day. Then I was out front during lunch and it was crazy. Not many reservations, all walk ins, which makes things un-paced. I was working with someone that I normally don't cook with too, so my usual flow was off. Anyway, I was ready for home by the end of my day. I plan on finishing this post, relaxing, and going to bed early to get up around 4 for a run before I go to the bakeshop. My mom also reminded me this morning that I'm scheduled for a cake decorating class at the local culinary school tomorrow afternoon...I'm assuming I'll be done in time, but who knows....

I discovered a nice treat waiting at the front door for me though! The basket I won from the Hershey kiss contest at Cookie Madness arrived already! That was quick...I do live fairly close to Hershey though (assuming it was shipped from there). It was a nice assortment of goodies. The basket is actually a big, metal mixing bowl. It was filled with two bags of hershey kisses: caramel and plain; flour; sugar; brownie mix; Reese's peanut butter; cocoa powder; an oven mitt; and spatula. Oh, and a recipe for peanut butter blossoms (drool!). It perked up a not so stellar day! Thanks again Anna and Heshey!

I still went out for a run this morning even though my throat felt a little dry. I'm hoping it was just from dry air in the house and the fact that I think I sleep with my mouth open. Before going I just had a little bit of an Arnold multigrain thin with cinnamon raisin pb. I decided against making oats last night and made a breakfast on the fly. Well, I thought of options while outside. I ended up making a one egg and one egg white omelet. I put half a piece of reduced fat Swiss and some spinach inside the omelet and topped it with some ketchup. I had a multigrain english muffin and half a banana on the side. I was worried it wouldn't be filling enough, but I actually was good all morning long. I did eat a couple tiny strawberries though.

Lunch was way spread out today. Before the rush hit I ate half of a roasted acorn squash with extra pepper and some cinnamon. I also threw a few craisins in halfway through. They roasted it with a little salt and pepper. When the lunch crowds finally stopped I ate a non-fat fage I brought with me. I added a tablespoon of ground flax (also brought from home), some cinnamon, blueberries, and strawberries. I also added a drizzle of honey. I know understand why so many people add honey in with fage! It was great! While I was sitting and waiting to go home I had a thin slice of baguette, a chocolate mint stick, and a chocolate espresso bean...definitely boredom eating because I wasn't hungry.

I'm on my own for the next few days while my parents are out of town. I think my mom comes back Sunday night or Monday...I decided to roast up half of a butternut squash I got the other day and have that with a sweet apple chicken sausage. While I was waiting for the squash to roast I had a few baby carrots. I broiled the sausage and then made a pizza of sorts. I topped half of an Arnold multigrain thin with some cranberry sauce and shredded cheddar. I sliced up the sausage and dinner was served! It was an odd combo, but it tasted good. I roasted the squash with a little evoo, some olive oil pam spray, kosher salt, ground black pepper, cinnamon, and cardamom.

I planned on making a mini banana split with the remaining half of the breakfast banana but I ended up just eating the banana. I had about a 1/4 cup serving of vanilla ice cream with a drizzle of lite Hershey's syrup and a couple crushed pb puffins...topped with a raspberry. Right after this I saw my delivery and had to try one of the caramel kisses (yum).

Its tv and sleepy time for me! Have a great weekend!
